Southwestern Assemblies of God University was founded 1988; however, it has a long history of Christian education in the state of Texas. The history of the school began in 1927 with the founding of the Southwestern Bible School in Enid, Oklahoma. Another school, the Shield of Faith Bible School, was founded in 1931 in Amarillo, Texas. A third university, the Southern Bible Institute, also founded in 1931, was opened in Goose Creek, Texas. In 1954, these colleges began to merge together to form two regional divisions. But by 1988, the divisions grew together to become the Southwestern Assemblies of God College, a school that was awarded regional accreditation.

The Southwestern Assemblies of God University has been awarded regional accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Colleges. The school is allowed to award its students associate, bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees. In addition to this regional accreditation, the university is a member of the following local, regional and national accrediting and governing bodies:

Southwestern Assemblies of God University Application Requirements

The application requirements to attend Southwestern Assemblies of God University are unique for both undergraduates and graduates. All of the applicants must be able to demonstrate a born again spiritual experience to be admitted to the university. This experience must fit within the definition offered by John 3:3; Titus 2:11; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7 or 1 John 1:7-10. Thus, applicants must have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

To reflect this, a Christian character reference must also be submitted and is considered to be an integral part of the application process for the university. This reference should prove that the applicant living or trying to live a Christian lifestyle that fits in with the standards of the university. Applicants whose lifestyle does not reflect this are denied admission.

In addition to meeting the personal requirements, applicants are also required to submit their official high school transcript as a part of the application process. This transcript should include a GPA of at least 2.0 from a public, private or home school.
Applicants must also submit either ACT or SAT test scores that were taken within 5 years of submission. Applications must have a minimum score of 19 on the ACT or 1350 on the SAT.

Finally, applicants must submit the application fee.

It should be noted that applicants who wish to study at the Southwestern Assemblies of God University online campus are not required to submit the Christian character reference.

Applicants applying to the Harrison Graduate School must also provide a professional reference.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The tuition and fees for students who wish to attend the Texas campus of Southwestern Assemblies of God University can expect to pay $655 per credit hour. Students seeking an undergraduate degree online will pay $565 per credit hour.
Graduate tuition is the same whether it is online or on campus and costs $575 per credit hour for both graduate and doctoral students. This tuition fee does not include a general fee that is set at $440 for students who take 8 or more credit hours per semester. If the student is taking fewer than 7 hours, the fee is assessed at $55 per credit hour.

This tuition does not include room fees. The room fees include:

The cost of the room fees range from $1,295 to $1,970 per semester. Pupils must be over the age of 22 if they wish to live off campus or with their family. Students living on campus, studying full time can expect to pay a minimum of $9,089.12 per academic semester. Master's Degree in History

The Master's Degree in History offered by the school is taught primarily online. However, some classes are offered on campus or in the evenings as well for pupils who wish to gain classroom experience. Regardless of how the students participate in the classes, the school offers the same support for both online and on-campus pupils. Students who are accepted into this program will choose from one of three tracks to complete the degree: education, thesis or non-thesis. Students who choose the thesis track will be required to complete a thesis. Non-thesis track students will be required to complete a research project. Those who are on the education track will learn differentiated learning strategies, how to teach students about diverse cultures, classroom management and advanced learning strategies.

When studying for a graduate degree in history, students will choose 18 hours of credits from the following major components:

In accordance with the university's mission and values, all courses are taught from the Christian worldview. Students are encouraged to use these classes to grow in their faith and to fulfill the student's responsibility as stewards of the Christian faith. Through this degree and its framework, the university hopes to provide pupils with the tools they need to become more involved with Scripture and begin to move down a path towards Biblical and Christian truth.
