Brenau University is a private, nonprofit institution of higher learning residing in Gainesville, Georgia. It is a comprehensive, liberal arts-based institution that is home to about 3,500 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs. It offers over 50 programs of study through its College of Business and Mass Communication, College of Education, College of Health Sciences, College of Fine Arts and Humanities, and Sidney O. Smith Jr. Graduate School. Brenau University is committed to challenging students to pursue remarkable professional and personal lives. Brenau University was founded in 1878 as Georgia Baptist Female Seminary, a private school for women. It changed its name to Brenau College in 1900 and became coeducational in 1972. The college officially became a university in 1992. The U.S. News and World Report ranks Brenau University number 52 in its Regional Universities South publication.

Brenau University Accreditation Details

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges accredits Brenau University to grant associate, bachelor's, master's, specialist, and doctorate degrees. The online nursing program is accredited by the Collegiate Commission for Nursing Education. The online interior design program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation. The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education accredits the online education programs. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs accredits the online business programs. The online project management program is accredited by the Project Management Institute.

Brenau University Application Requirements

Undergraduate students seeking admission to Brenau University must submit an online application, request official high school transcript be submitted directly to the university, submit official transcripts from previous institutions, and send all standardized test scores such as the SAT or ACT sent directly to the Office of Admissions. Applicants must also pay a $35 nonrefundable application fee.

Individuals applying for graduate school must submit an online graduate application for specific program, request official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended, request official standardized test scores, such as GRE, MAT, MCAT, or LSAT, be sent directly to Brenau University. Additional requirements such as the submission of professional resumes and two letters of recommendation are necessary for specific graduate programs. A $35 nonrefundable graduate application fee is also required for all applicants.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The tuition for Brenau University varies on school of education, number of credit hours and other factors. Women's College-Day: one to 11 credit hours is $892 per hour, 12-18 hours is a flat rate of $13,376, and 19 hours and up is the flat rate plus $892 per hour over 18. Women's College Health Science-Day and Nursing/Occupational Therapy: one to 11 hours $977 per hour, 12-18 hours $14,604 flat rate, and more than 18 hours flat rate plus $977 per hour. Undergraduate College-Day: $892 per hour. For Undergraduate College-Nursing: $676 per hour. Undergraduate College-Health Science/Occupational Therapy: $977 per hour. Undergraduate College (Non-AGS) Fairburn and Augusta teach out only: $420 per hour. Undergraduate College-AGS: associate degree-$491 per hour, bachelor's degree-$594 per hour, this applies for Gainesville, North Atlanta, South Atlanta, Augusta, Jacksonville, and online. Residential: Women's College-$13,376 per semester, or $19,785 per semester with tuition, room and board, tech fee, and safety and security fee. Women's College-health science $14,604 per semester, or $21,013 per semester with room and board and fees. Graduate: business-$652 per hour. Occupational therapy-day one to 11 $977 per hour, 12-18 hour $14,604 flat rate, overload flat rate plus $977 per hour over 18 hours. Education-$652 per hour. Science, master's in fine arts, master's in interior design, and post bachelor's science $652 per hour. Health science in occupational therapy $977 per hour. For online specialist degree in education it is $652 per hour. For doctorate in nursing practice $977 per hour, doctorate of occupational therapy $977 per hour, and doctorate of physical therapy $11,550 per semester. For students in the military, it is $250 per hour for active duty members and 10 percent off program rate for veteran and spouses and dependents of active duty members.

Brenau University offers an array of financial aid programs to help students fund their higher education. Scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study programs are available for students who qualify. Examples of available scholarships include: The Brenau Scholars Program, Trustee and Faculty Excellence Scholarships, Legacy Scholarship, Hope Scholarship, and Alumnae Endowed Scholarship. The grants that are available include: Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG Grant, Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant, Brenau Achievement Grants, Brenau Opportunity Grants, and TEACH Grant. Federal Direct Loans, Federal PLUS Loans, and Student Access Loan Program are the loan options available for students. The Federal Work-Study program is available for students who would like to gain part-time employment either on or off campus to earn wages to pay for college related expenses. The types of positions, pay, and hours vary, but typically students in the work-study program work 20 hours or less per week.

Online Degrees Available

Sixteen online degree programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels are offered by Brenau University. The programs are offered completely online via the Canvas delivery platform. The online bachelor's degree in organizational leadership is designed to provide students with the essential management, communication, and motivational abilities to work in a collaborative professional atmosphere. The program strives to help graduates become better leaders in their current and future positions. Students develop skills in critical thinking, human resources, conflict resolution, group dynamics, change management, ethics, management, and communication. The program requires the completion of 120 credit hours and the major core courses include human resource management, organizational development and change, strategic thinking and innovation, conflict resolution, leadership principles, management principles, and organizational behavior. The master's degree in interior design prepares students to pursue teaching positions in the field at the college level as well as other advanced opportunities in interior design. The program instructs about current issues in the field and helps students develop evidence-based design skills combining practice and research. The program requires the completion of at least 63 credit hours and the major core courses include interior design classroom instruction, interior design classroom preparation, research and design theory, experimental graduate studio, critical and creative thinking, and teaching theory and learning methods. Students must also complete a thesis and present a portfolio. Brenau University also offers various online master's degrees in business administration, education, and gerontology.
