The Florida Institute of Technology, or Florida Tech, is a private research university located in Florida. Florida Tech's primary campus of 130 acres is located near the Florida Tech Research Park and the Kennedy Space Center. Florida Tech is divided into six academic divisions, but the aviation and aeronautics programs are the most well-known. The College of Engineering receives around half of all incoming students and the rest attend the Colleges of Aeronautics, Business, Psychology, Science and Liberal Arts. The university was founded in the late 1950s as an engineering college. Today, around 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students attend on-campus programs. Florida Tech offers graduate degree programs through satellite sites in Alabama, Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland and Orlando, Florida.

Florida Tech is awarded tens of million in external research funding every year. Many graduate researchers compete for National Science Foundation (NSF) Career Awards and other distinguished honors. Florida tech recently created new research university institutes that include the Institutes for Nanotechnology, Marine Research, Materials Science, Energy Systems, Biomedical Sciences and River Lagoon Research. Florida Institute of Technology Accreditation Details

Florida Institute of Technology is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. This is one of six regional accrediting bodies in the U.S. Florida Tech's aeronautical science, aviation management and aviation computer science programs are accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI). Florida Tech's business programs are accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE). The MBA project management degree program is accredited by the Project Management Institute Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC).

Florida Institute of Technology Application Requirements

The Office of Admission carefully reviews applications through an internal evaluation criteria designed to determine the realistic ability of the student to complete their program. Applications either are reviewed for admission into specific degree programs or admission into first-year science or engineering programs. Applicants must submit transcripts, an essay, SAT or ACT results and a letter of recommendation. Applications must clearly demonstrate the student's readiness to handle challenging academic curriculum. High school transcripts should reflect regional approval or state accreditation. There is no minimum GPA, class rank or standardized test score used to grade candidates during the admissions process. Science and engineering applicants' high school transcript should show that they have completed four years of mathematics, which should include pre-calculus, trigonometry, analytical geometry or mathematics analysis, and four years of science, which must include physics and chemistry. Students who are applying for aeronautics, business and psychology programs must have completed three years of math and science.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Graduate students of engineering and aeronautical programs will pay around $1,240 per credit hour, which equates to around $22,000 per year. The total cost of attendance is around $40,000 per year for these students. Graduate students who attend school online will only pay $777 per credit hour. All students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at no cost on the Department of Education's website. Students may apply for Perkins, Stafford or Graduate PLUS Loans. Florida Tech offers their unique Panther Payment Plans to help students spread out fee and tuition payments. This payment plan enables parents and other person to access the student's account to make payments for them. The Panther Payment Plan is designed to help students effectively budget their expenses each semester. The Tuition Exchange program is a non-profit, reciprocal scholarship program that enables the dependents of staff and faculty to apply for full tuition scholarships at over 600 participating colleges and universities.

Online Degrees Available

Florida Tech's allows all 10 off-campus locations to participate in distance learning activities. All prospective students may choose from 22 degrees in the areas of science, business, space systems and technology. Most online courses are 16 week semesters, but summer semesters are 11 weeks. The online master's in aviation management program provides students with new knowledge to advance their careers and assume new responsibilities. The aviation management program is perfect for a wide range of professionals who want a competitive edge in their field. This includes airport managers, operations officers, corporate consultants, educational staff, regulatory officers and insurance investigators. The online logistics management program trains students how to handle corporate goods, finances, resources and information. Students are trained to move goods from the point of non-local or foreign origination to the intended destination in timely and orderly fashions. Students are trained to become the next generation of logistics managers who control the systematic coordination and enterprise-wide integration of business processes and information systems. These students learn how to coordinate and communicate with everyone from ocean shipping to container rail to transportation companies. Graduates who have a logistics management degree find work in almost every industry, including business, military, humanitarian and warehousing logistics. This program includes classes on organizational psychology, so students learn how individual behavior and group processes shape internal dynamics. The curriculum always includes a class on global purchasing, procurement or supply chain management. Students learn about global sourcing, purchasing processes, logistical challenges and procurement technology. Class topics also include freight classifications, customs procedures, exchange fluctuations and contract administration.

Florida Institute of Technology has over 130 active student organizations. These include the Homecoming Committee, Campus Activities Board and Student Government Association.
