Named for the 14th President of the United States, Franklin Pierce University began more than a century after Pierce sat in the Oval Office. It was founded by Frank S. DiPietro in 1962 with the vision of educating leaders. Initially, classes shared the town of Rindge's library and study facilities. The same year the school was founded, DiPietro purchased a hilltop estate that overlooked Pearly Pond. Today, the school's undergraduate campus is located on this property. In 2007, the school gained university status.

Franklin Pierce University Application Requirements

Students who have not earned college credit after high school graduation should complete an application and provide official high school transcripts as well as official ACT or SAT scores. Students must provide one letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor. Additional letters may be provided although they are not required and should speak to the student's character. Students must also provide an essay of at least 250 words that evaluates an experience that had special meaning, discusses an issue of personal, local or national importance or indicates a person who has had an influence on the student. Applicants may also choose their own topic for the essay.

Students who wish to attend undergraduate online programs must complete an application and provide official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended. Students who have not earned college credit after high school graduation must submit official high school transcripts.

Some programs require portfolios or other information as part of the application process, so students should contact an admission counselor to determine what is required.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition is $33,900 per year for full-time study. Part-time undergraduate tuition is $1,130 per credit hour. Online undergraduate tuition is $400 per credit hour. Graduate tuition for on campus and online courses is $665 per credit hour.

Financial aid is available and students must complete the FAFSA in order to qualify. Each year, $28 million is awarded in institutional grants and scholarships each year with 100 percent of students at Franklin Pierce University receiving some type of financial assistance. The average scholarship is $22,900 and the average financial aid package is $39,490.

The Master of Science in Accounting prepares students to sit for the Certified Public Accounting, Certified Management Accountant or the Certified Internal Auditor examination.
