In 1929, Samuel Tator, a politician who was also a business professor, along with Phillip Troup, a graduate of Yale, built the Connecticut College of Commerce, a two-year business school which eventually became Quinnipiac University. The two men worked together to create an institution that was designed to address the loss of Northeastern University when the school closed their New Haven, Connecticut location during the Great Depression. The school became the Junior College of Commerce in 1935.
From 1943 to 1945, almost the entire student body served in the Armed Forces after being drafted during World War II, leading to a temporary closure of the school. When the doors reopened after the war, soldiers took advantage of the G.I. Bill and enrollment grew to over 800. In honor of the Quinnipiac Indian tribe that inhabited the Greater New Haven area, the school was renamed Quinnipiac College in 1951. In 1952, the school took control of a woman's college, Larson College.
Quinnipiac moved to Hamden, Connecticut in 1966, but remained a commuter college until the 1990s. In 2000, the school gained university status, becoming Quinnipiac University. Today, there are more than 10,000 students enrolled at the school and it ranks in the top 13 percent of 4-year schools nationally according to The Economist and The Brookings Institute.

Quinnipiac University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Accreditation indicates that the school is committed to providing students with the highest level of academics possible and agree to reviews perodically by the accrediting agency to confirm that level is being reached. Business programs at Quinnipiac are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and legal programs are accredited by the American Bar Association. The School of Education is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and the Doctor of Nursing for Nurse Anesthetists program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation Nurse Anesthesia Program. Other nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Quinnipiac University Application Requirements
Students who wish to attend Quinnipiac as freshmen should complete an application which requires a personal statement and submit official high school transcripts as well as official SAT or ACT scores. Approximately 250 students each year transfer to Quinnipiac from other schools. Most majors require a minimum GPA of 2.5 and students must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities the student has attended. Students must also provide a letter of recommendation. Graduate admission requirements vary depending on the program chosen. Students are encouraged to speak to an admissions counselor before applying.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Full-time undergraduate tuition at Quinnipiac University is $45,540 per year. Graduate tuition is $1,035 per credit hour. Financial aid is available, and the university uses information from the FAFSA to determine eligibility. Undergraduate students may be eligible for athletic awards, employee benefits, tuition exchanges, scholarships and more that may offset the cost of tuition. Students may also qualify for grants, scholarships or work-study programs. Parent and student loans are also an option for financing the cost of education.

Master of Science in Instructional Design
Quinnipiac University offers a Master of Science program in Instructional Design that is available completely online. The program provides students with an understanding of how to create digital content for learning. Students can concentrate their study in three areas including Corporate or Nonprofit, Online Learning or K-12 Classroom. Students may also choose specific electives that allow them to customize their degree. The program is career-focused and offers a flexible career path. Classes are taught by the same faculty members who teach the online program, but with a flexible class format that allows students to meet goals outside of education.
Master of Science in Interactive Media
The Master of Science in Interactive Media prepares students for careers in digital media. The program merges creative, visual and critical thinking together to create digital designers. Students learn to create content as well as the principles of human-centered design. The program provides a deep understanding of video, graphics, UX, UI, audio and social media analytics. The program ends with a practice-based capstone that builds a portfolio the student can use to demonstrate their skills with future employers. Courses include Visual Design, Motion Across Media, Web Technologies and Content Strategy to name a few. Students gain an understanding of contemporary media and are able to choose from a wide range of electives to customize their studies. In order to apply, students must complete an application and provide two professional recommendations as well as a resume, personal statement, portfolio and official transcripts from all institutions attended.
Master of Science in Business Analytics
The Master of Science in Business Analytics offered at Quinnipiac University is an online program designed for working professionals. Students gain an understanding of the importance of data and how to leverage information in order to make informed business decisions. Students gain an understanding of quantitative and analytical skills as well as the art of presentation. The program is 33 credits and prepares students in areas like visualization, dining and management of data. Courses include Predictive Modeling, Data Management, Text Mining and Data Visualization. In order to apply students must complete an application and provide a personal statement, current resume as well as official transcripts from all colleges attended. One transcript must display the conferring of a bachelor's degree or higher. Three recommendations are also required, and one must be from a professional contact. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 in all undergraduate studies. Work experience in statistics or analytics is strongly advised. GRE and GMAT scores are not required but may be submitted in support of the student's application.
