Established in 1886, the University of Wyoming offers local and online students quality education opportunities. The location of the University of Wyoming, the small town of Laramie, is legally mandated in the state's constitution. Every year, over 14,000 students from all states and 90 plus countries attend the university. The student/faculty ratio of 15:1, so the university is a small community of academic teachers and learners. The most famous alumni is former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Current students may participate in the Outdoor Program that offers exciting adventures for outdoor enthusiasts. The program helps students participate in single-day activities and week-long excursions. Some of the trips include skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, rock climbing, white water rafting, ice climbing and mountain biking. Visitors to the university are welcome to tour the on-campus American Heritage Center, Art Museum and Geological Museum. The Enhanced Oil Recovery Institute (EORI) is an on-campus science program that promotes the use of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques in the state.

The university offers 80 undergraduate degrees and 90 graduate degree programs through seven colleges and interdisciplinary schools. Some of these include the Colleges of Law, Business, Education, Engineering, Agriculture and Arts and Sciences. There is also the Graduate Education program and the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. The Outreach School offers over 40 degrees and certificates to local and global learners. These degree programs use both online technology and video conferencing formats. The Outreach School has nine centers within the state for residents.

The University of Wyoming Accreditation Details

Since 1923, the University of Wyoming has been accredited through the Higher Learning Commission. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accredits the College of Business. Other accreditations held by the University of Wyoming include:

The University of Wyoming Application Requirements

The University of Wyoming requires standard information and application materials. First-year students who will be attending the Laramie Campus must submit a high school transcript with their online application. Transfer, returning, online and second bachelor's degree-seeking students will complete a separate online application. Students who want to pursue a graduate-level degree or certificate must check with the academic program of their interest.

The University of Wyoming Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate residents will pay $2,349 for nine credits and $4,698 for 18 credits. Mandatory fees range from $690 to $1,380. The total cost will be $3,039 to $6,078. Non-residents will pay $7,020 for nine credits and $14,040 for 18 credits. Their estimated costs are $7,710 to $15,420. After the applicant completes the FAFSA, the Office of Admissions uses software to complete a comprehensive analysis that reviews the level of need, the qualifications and the available funding. The result is a package of financial aid that has a mix of grants, scholarships, student loans and work-study opportunities.

After admission, students are automatically considered for a few scholarships. The Office of Admissions offers these scholarships: Hathaway, Trustees' Scholars and Rocky Mountain Scholars. The university is a member of the Western Undergraduate Exchange, which offers reduced tuition rates at over 145 participating institutions. They promise a tuition that is capped at 150 percent of the resident tuition rate. Federal Subsidized Loans are awarded to individuals who have financial need. Federal Unsubsidized Loans are offered to students regardless of their financial status. The Federal Graduate PLUS Direct is for students who can't afford a master's degree.

Online Degrees Available

UW at a Distance is the online program that offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees. The College of Education offers five excellent online degrees for current and prospective teachers. The Master's in Education: Curriculum and Instruction is designed for classroom teachers who want to improve their professional craft and commitment. Classes cover topics like curriculum design, learning assessment, multicultural education and educational research. The Master's of Science in Online Instructional Technology is the perfect choice for students who want to create, develop, implement and evaluate distance education systems, resources and learning environments.

Alternatively, the Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration is for teachers who want entry level admin and leadership jobs in colleges and universities. Students gain budgeting, organizational planning, supervisory oversight and business management skills. The Master of Arts in Educational Leadership is a principal preparation program to help the student earn the certification as a K-12 principal in the state of Wyoming. The Master's in Education prepares graduates to help students with special, learning and behavioral needs in K-12 teaching positions.

The College of Business offers a 100 percent online MBA program for busy business professionals. This AACSB accredited program takes two years to complete. This is a cohort-based program where students proceed through the entire program together. Students will take a Financial Accounting class to be able to understand accounting system data and a Financial Management class to understand corporate financial decision-making. Next, the Business Research Methods classes provide quantitative data analysis and interpretation tools. Studying Marketing Analysis trains graduates how to assess SWOTs and create strategic plans. Other classes include Managerial Accounting, Decision Sciences, Organizational Behavior and International Business.

Students who want an atypical healthcare career can choose from a variety of unique online graduate degrees. For example, the Family & Consumer Sciences degree is for students interested in Human Development and Family Sciences. This degree is available in three specializations: Human Nutrition and Food, Human Development and Food as well as Design, Merchandising and Textiles. The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources' Department of Animal Science offers a joint Master of Science in Food Science and Human Nutrition with the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. Alternatively, the Kinesiology and Health degree is for certified PE teachers and the Online Nurse Educator program is for licensed nurses to become transformational learners and leaders

There is also online master's degrees available in Public Administration, Speech-Language-Hearing, School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling. The University of Wyoming is a great academic choice for anyone with a bachelor's degree who wants an affordable graduate education.
