The degree was developed for certified teacher and emphasizes new and digital literacies in a pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade setting. The degree program is open to candidates with at least two years of teaching experience, though some exceptions will be made. Candidates will also need a minimum 3.0 GPA and a strong score from a recent graduate admissions examination. The program takes place entirely online and is delivered in a cohort structure, meaning students progress through a set sequence of courses as a group. Students complete 36 credit hours through 12 courses in literacy instruction, historical foundations of literacy, research, digital literacy, and more. Students complete the program in an average of two years. With proper course selection, students may be eligible for the Georgia Reading Endorsement upon graduation. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
